How do I read an e-moto tyre size?

E-moto tyres use a three-part size format like Width / Aspect Ratio - Rim Diameter.

Take 70/100-19 as an example:

  • 70: tyre width in millimetres
  • 100: aspect ratio (the sidewall height as a percentage of the width)
  • 19: wheel diameter in inches

So a 70/100-19 is 70mm wide, with a sidewall height of 70mm (100% of 70), fitted to a 19-inch rim.

You'll find your current tyre size moulded into the sidewall. Match all three numbers when buying a replacement. Getting the diameter wrong means the tyre won't fit your rim, and getting the width or aspect ratio wrong can affect handling and clearance.

Not sure what size you need? Check your bike's manual or reach out and we'll help you find the right fit.

Are these tyres road legal in Australia?

Motocross tyres like the Starcross 5 and Kenda K780F are designed for off-road use only and are not road legal. The Shinko E804/805 Dual Sport is road legal. Road legality of the e-moto itself also varies by state, so check your local regulations before riding on public roads.

How often should I replace e-moto tyres?

It depends on riding style and terrain, but aggressive off-road riding will wear knobby tyres faster than trail or dual sport use. Inspect for cracking, significant knob wear, or any visible damage after every session. If the tread is looking square or the knobs are worn flat, it's time to replace. Don't ride on compromised rubber.

Can you fit my new tyres in-store?

Yes. Our Ascot Vale workshop can handle tyre swaps and wheel work. Book in through our service page or swing by. We'd rather do it right than have you wrestling with a stubborn bead at home.
