(Staff Picks from the Crew Who Actually Ride Them)
After years of talking about electric dirt bikes as ‘the future of off-road,’ we can confidently say that in 2025, the future has arrived.
These pocket rockets have gone from strength to strength, and with the millions of dollars of investment that have gone into many of the producers you’ll see on this list, it should come as no surprise that they’ve managed to create some pretty incredible machines.
In this article, we’re aiming to accomplish a few things. The first is to convince anyone reading who might be on the fence about electric dirt bikes, that there really is only one winner. The second is to show the breadth and range of what’s available in 2025. And the third and arguably most important is to give you all the necessary information to pick an electric dirt bike that you’ll absolutely fall in love with.
No pressure then, ay?
Let’s start at the start. You’re obviously reading this blog because you have some interest in electric dirt bikes. But if you’re not totally sold yet, allow us to help.
Maintenance: Electric wins hands down here. No oil changes, no spark plugs, and no air filters.
Noise: One of the biggest issues facing the entire sport of dirt biking is the fight against noise. Residents don’t like it, and state forests are closing their trails en masse because of it. For this reason alone, electric dirt biking will definitely take over.
Beginner-friendly: Clutches and gears can be an intimidating thing to contend with for newbie riders. Electric bikes take a lot of this brain strain out of the equation.
Running costs: To be fair, this depends on your bike and your location. But generally, charging your bike costs less than buying fuel. When you count the significantly lower servicing costs as well, electric dirt bikes become the more cost-effective option.
Eco-friendly riding: We ride to get out in nature, so it stands to reason that we should all be trying to protect it. Not only do e-bikes produce no emissions when they’re running, but they also cause less disturbance to wildlife.
Technology features: As you’ll see in this list, electric dirt bikes are absolutely stacked with technology. Customisable power modes, throttle response, and regenerative braking can all be controlled via apps.
If you’re not sold on electric dirt bikes after all that, you never will be! Now, on with the article!
Because we run a business that literally sells electric dirt bikes!? If you wanted to buy a horse, you’d get an opinion off someone who has ridden a lot of horses. Want to buy an electric dirt bike? Ask the people who ride them—that’s us!
In all seriousness, we don’t just unpack boxes and hand over the keys. We build, test, and ride the bikes ourselves week in and week out. Every bike on this list has either been under our feet, up on our workbench, or both.
Also, a quick plug for us here at Melbourne Powered, we have one of the biggest e-moto ranges in Australia, an in-house workshop in Melbourne, and a team that lives and breathes electric dirt bikes (and electric bikes in general for that matter).
Not all e-motos are created equal, and that is very much on purpose. We’ll be splitting this list up into 5 main categories. Here they are:
Electric Dirt Bikes: These are the all rounders. The do anything, go anywhere bush bashers that do exactly what it says on the box..
High-Powered Electric Dirt Bikes: Just like the electric bikes above, except with everything kicked up a notch or five. Seriously, these babies are fierce.
Road-Registerable Electric Dirt Bikes: Not everyone wants a bike just to smash the trails on the weekend. If you want to ride you electric dirt biek to work in the week, this category is for you.
Pit Electric Dirt Bikes: Small in size, big on attitude. You never see someone riding one of these without an ear to ear grin on their face.
Kids Electric Dirt Bikes – Safe, capable, and actually fun. Built to grow their skills (not your medical bills).
Trail-ready and begging for full-send.
If you’ve taken an interest into electric dirt bikes, you’ll no doubt have heard of the Surron Light Bee. When the Light Bee came onto the scene in 2018, it was the first model that really made the e-moto accessible. Before that, we only really had full size models from Alta or KTM’s e-models.
Since them, Surron hasn’t dropped the ball one little bit. With successive iterations of the Light Bee only making it better and more fun to ride.

If the E-Ride Pro SS feels like a step up from regular e-motos, then the E-Ride Pro SR is like climbing the whole mountain. With double the peak power (yes, you read that right) of the SS, a 112km/h top speed, and an even larger 72v 50Ah battery, the SR is comfortably in the conversation for best electric dirt bike of the year.
Top Speed: 112km/h
Peak Power: 25kW (10kW rated)
Battery: 72V 50Ah (Samsung 50s, swappable)
Range: 100+km @ 40km/h | 150+km @ 24km/h

With every passing year, electric dirt bikes close the performance gap with gas-powered motorbikes. This year, that gap shrank considerably. In fact, we would argue that with the VTB Ventus, that gap has completeley shut.
For context, the wet weight of a Yamaha WR450F (a top gas-powered dirt bike) is nearly double the Ventus. The Ventus wins on range too with 115km to the WR450F’s 80-100km. And with a top speed of 130km/h, the Ventus One is only 30km/h behind the WR450F. But in a race to 130km/h between the two, the Yamaha would be left in the dust.
Oh, and did we mention the Ventus One is a full $8,000 cheaper than the WR450F???
Top Speed: 130km/h
Peak Power: 28kW (390Nm torque)
Battery: 72V 50Ah (Samsung 21700 cells)
Range: Up to 115km @ 40km/h
Weight: 69kg (with battery)
Suspension: 200mm front / up to 290mm rear (adjustable)
Surron just never seem to miss. Their customers wanted more, and with the Ultra Bee HP, that’s exactly what they’ve got. Despite the increase in size, speed, and torque, the Ultra Bee still sticks to the same light and agile design principles that have served Surron so well thus far.
Add in the addition of traction control, under-seat storage, and a fast charging 60Ah battery and you’ve got a beautifully well rounded performance e-moto.
Top Speed: 95km/h
Peak Power: 21kW (511Nm torque)
Battery: 74V 60Ah lithium (removable & swappable)
Range: Up to 140km @ 40km/h

https://starkfuture.com/en-us-AU/products/stark-varg
This is an unbiased article, and in the interest of fairness, no article about the best bikes of 2025 would be complete without the Stark VARG Alpha (even though we don’t stock it).
The specs sheet for these bikes is frankly insane. It doesn’t just compete with petrol dirt bikes, it completely batters them. It has more horsepower and torque than any sane person would know what to do with, is so customisable that you can just tell it to behave like a 2 stroke or 4 stroke and can be ridden for 6 freaking hours. And that’s not even half of it.
Peak Power: 80HP (approx. 59.7kW)
Torque: 938Nm (at the rear wheel)
Battery: 6.5kWh (up to 6 hours of trail riding)
Charge Time: 1–2 hours (depending on outlet)
Weight: ~110kg (MX-ready)
Top Features: 100+ ride modes, app tuning, ultra-light frame, IP69K waterproofing
I mean, who actually wants to use a trailer anyway?
Believe it or not, the regular Ultra Bee isn’t meant to be ridden on the streets (not that that seems to stop many people), but the Ultra Bee R (ADR approved) is!
You still get all the goodies such as a lightweight build with a 12.5kW mid-mount motor, 440Nm of torque, traction control, under-seat storage, AND a fast charging 55Ah battery—this version just has all of the little twiddlies added that you need to be safe on the road.
Top Speed: 90km/h
Peak Power: 12.5kW (440Nm torque)
Battery: 74V 55Ah lithium (removable)

Brakes: 4-piston hydraulic discs
Road-Ready: ADR-approved for full registration in Australia
Zippy, fun as hell, great to ride. What’s not to love?
https://melbournepowered.com.au/products/e-ride-pro-mini
You’d be forgiven for thinking that a bike with ‘Mini’ in its name would be a tame machine. But don’t be fooled, the E-Ride Pro Mini absolutely rips. We’d say it is for younger riders, but we’ve all had just as much fun on these electric pit bikes as any kid could have.
The two footpeg positions are a nice touch as well, so kids and big kids can all ride in a seating position that feels comfortable for them.

Despite the slightly confusing naming convention, the Surron Hyper Bee is actually smaller than the Surron Light Bee, and has been designed to make off-riding more accessible to those who are just getting into it, without watering down all of the fun.
What you’ll get in this light and nimble package is an electric dirt bike powered by a 5kW motor, a 55km/h top speed, and a weight of only 39kgs. And although they’ve lowered the size and weight, they’ve still kept all the truly important features such as disk brakes, adjustable suspension, and a very clever parental remote cut-off and wrist strap kill switch.
Honestly, what haven’t they thought of??

They’re small in stature, but these bikes are by no means a toy.
